Azuero lifestyle

The Azuero peninsula is a group of 3 provinces:
Los Santos, Herrera and Veraguas.

Azuero is know as the cradle of Panama’s folkloric traditions with over 700 festivities during the year.

The most popular are 1000 polleras parade, carnavales, Corpus Christi and New Years celebrations that bring thousands of visitors from around the world.

The Pollera is the national dress for Panamá. Is entirely handmade, a process which can take 10 to 12 months to complete. Every region in Panama has its own specific pollera, and variations exist depending on its use; the "pollera de gala" is worn for formal occasions while the "pollera montuna" is more suited for everyday dress. Towns like Las Tablas, Chitré and La Villa de Los Santos is considered to be a Panamanian cultural region, as it’s also home to the country’s biggest Carnavales. The 1000 Polleras Parade is a family day parade were everybody wearstraditional clothing and dances along the parade route.

However, any given day is as tranquil and relax as small Spanish colonial town could be. Azuero never looses its small town charm, where open door policy is traditional to greet our guest on our homes.

The peninsula, internationally know in the sportfishing world as the tuna coast, holds several tournaments throughout the year.

Pedasí:
The fishing village of Pedasí is home to a diversity of people; expats from the US, Canada, Europeans and locals whom have worked together to keep the town’s colonial charming character while adding facilities such as restaurants, bakeries, bike rentals, scuba shop and tour operators. Here, cattlefarms and farmland will merge with surfers hanging out waiting for a great wave or with locals riding a fisherman’s panga to cross over to the wildlife reserve iguana island.

Beaches:
The best surfing beach will be found in Playa Venao, a 35-minute drive from Pedasí, where several international competitions have taken place. There are also dozens of nearby beaches such as Los Destiladeros, Puerto Escondido, Los Panamaes or playa El Arenal where you can ask a local fisherman to take you to Isla Iguana for a day trip. There you can snorkel or just enjoy the fine white sand beach with crystal clear turquoise waters. If you are visiting between June and September you will be lucky enough to see humpback whales.

Isla Cañas, is famous for the turtles that come to nest each year. This is also a protected island as a wildlife reserve.
